Jade Goes To New York Comic Con in 2019!

Last year, the best friend and I crossed something significant off our bucket lists: Attend New York Comic Con. This year, I crossed off another thing: Cosplay! (Cosplay, or costume play, is the act of dressing up as a fictional character.)

Since this was my first time cosplaying, I had to bring the Harry Potter love, and unsurprisingly to anyone, I chose a Ravenclaw student as my first cosplay. What do you guys think?

The best friend and I only attended 1 day this year and—spoiler alert—that was a mistake. We tried to see and do everything in 1 day, and were completely exhausted for the next two days.

Still, our dying legs were worth it because we had a blast and the photos to prove it! One of my favorite things about comic con are the cosplays. It’s exciting when you see a fellow fan dressed up as one of your favorite characters. I’m always in awe at the detail and dedication many cosplayers give to their cosplays. Here were my favorites this year:

P.S. Michael Myers and Jason staged a whole fight in the lobby of Javits Center! It was very cool to watch, but unfortunately, I couldn’t capture it on video. My photo was taken at the end of the fight when Michael was seemingly defeated (but of course, he rolled over and sat up in his iconically creepy way and the fight continued a bit longer).

My second favorite thing about Comic Con are the collectibles and merchandise. I didn’t buy anything this year (this girl’s on a budget), but the best friend and I still ooh-ed and aah-ed over the figures that caught our eye:

Everywhere we looked, there was something the best friend and I couldn’t resist pointing out to each other and snapping photos of. From larger than life displays—

to old favorites—

NYCC was full of reasons to make our inner fangirls happy.

The last thing on our itinerary was “Mugglenet’s Into The Pensieve” panel hosted by one of  the biggest Harry Potter fansites…ever. Full of games, prizes and nostalgia, the panel was amazing, and the highlight? When Dan Fogler aka Jacob Kowalski in the Fantastic Beasts movies made a surprise appearance!

Andy Miller, an actor from the off-broadway play, Puffs, Or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic (which I was able to watch before its final performance and it was one of the best things I’ve ever seen as a Harry Potter fan), also made an appearance but I wasn’t able to get a good photo of her. Fun Fact: Andy Miller is incredible at charades!

As always, a selfie from the best friend and I (she’s wearing a Deadpool dress).

We’re already counting down the days to next year’s comic con.

  1. This gives me back memories! Although I wasn’t able to attend bigger comic conventions here in the Philippines when I was still cosplaying, seeing the costumes and portrayals served as a reminder of what cosplay should be.

    • Ahh I’m glad to meet a fellow convention and cosplay lover! I agree, seeing how much effort some of the cosplayers put into their costumes definitely serves as a reminder of the heights cosplay can go 🙂
