This is not a poem.
Where do I find the words
To convey the shock,
The stillness of the air,
The fading of the sounds,
As I read the news that she is gone.
How do I weave the rhymes
To dance in fear
Of a loss so great, it reverberates
Through every woman’s tears,
Scared of being a pawn.
No, this is not a poem.
This is a whisper of thanks
Soaked in grief
To a woman who changed the world,
And this is a promise
To continue her fight.

I was upset by her passing – and then, immediately, my husband’s grandmother just starts in on this “yay, she died, the baby murderer!” glee. It was shocking and awful, and I don’t really know who to tell about it because it’s my husband’s grandmother and I know my mom will just say something hurtful about it.
Oh no…that’s terrible…I’m so sorry you had to hear that from a family member and were in that uncomfortable situation. Politics and money are two things that really make you question just how strong your familial bonds are and just how much you are willing to tolerate. If you ever need to talk to someone who’s not related to you, feel free to reach out 🙂

I really believe that the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be upheld for generations to come, not only in the Supreme Court, but by generations of people passionate for equality.
