[Poetry] For Them

This poem

Is for the child
Sprinting through the crimson streets
Tripping over the last breaths
Of his father—

For the mother
Protecting her babies’ ears
From the piercing shrieks that echo
Long after the ashes settle—

For the thousands of eyes
That look to the sky
Through acid and smoke
And never look back down.

From my debut poetry collection, Glowstick.

I’m still seeking representation for Glowstick, and submitting to smaller presses to see if I can be published that way. I’m also doing research to prepare for a self-publishing debut, if nothing else works out.

I am ready for Glowstick to be in the world. I am ready to share my story and my pain, so that anyone out there who may be feeling the same way and needs to read these words to know they’re not alone, will now get that chance.

One way or another, Glowstick will be published in 2021. I hope you’ll look forward to it.

    • Thank you, Maria. Yes, unfortunately, despite this poem being written two years ago, the content is still relevant today. Hopefully, there will be a time in the future where we know peace more than war.

    • Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts on this poem. I love that you read this and applied the loss within to how it’s not just about one person when we lose someone. I agree with that statement, loss is truly felt in ripples across many hearts.
