I do not fear the chill of Winter,
Not its fingers blue and cold
Nor my breath frozen in their hold.
I do not fear the dark of Winter,
Not its suffocating shadow
Nor the voices whispering just below.
No, what I fear is what comes after,
The promise of hope and all it brings
When Winter fades away to Spring.
For I know how hope can devastate,
I know the harm that hope can deal,
How its agony is hard to heal.
There is a cruel comfort to living in pain,
So, I do not fear the brutal Winter,
I fear only what comes after.

Hope is a double eged sword. Hope opens the doors to anticipation and (sometimes) unreasonable expectations ans with no promise of when things will be resolved.
Powerful poem Jade.
Exactly.
Thank you for reading and hope you’re doing well 🙂

Sometimes hope delivers on its promise and sometimes it fails, just like life.
Very true.
Thank you for reading, Sadje 🙂
You’re welcome Jade.
Thought provoking; lovely.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed.
It’s true. Hope can guide us through darkness, but false hope is a slayer.
False hope truly can be so devastating.
Thank you for reading, VJ.
Welcome, Jade

[…] I first read this piece in Jade’s IG. What are your thoughts about hope? [Poetry] After The Winter […]
Ahhhh dear Jade i love this…though hope can be a good thing it also can be bad if one is not certain how to deal with it..
Yes, true, and false hope can certainly be devastating, as mentioned in another comment.
Thank you for reading, Mich 🙂
Ah, this is a sad one! Hopefully the “winter” of coronavirus will wake to something ok. I believe in a vaccine, anyway!
I do hope the vaccine is created sooner rather than later, though many experts say covid-19 will eventually become like the flu and never truly go away. Regardless, I hope we are able to control it before even more lives are lost.
We’ll see…
